Is There a Polar Express Ride in Branson, and Is It Worth It?

Yes. Branson Scenic Railway runs THE POLAR EXPRESS Train Ride, and the Polar Express in Branson is worth it for families with young children: a family of four pays from $180 plus tax for a one hour and fifteen minute ride where Santa gives every guest a silver sleigh bell. It runs on select dates from November 12, 2026 to January 2, 2027.

What Happens on the Polar Express Train Ride in Branson?

The ride acts out the children's book on a real train: the Conductor punches golden tickets, dancing chefs serve hot chocolate and a treat, the story is read aloud, and Santa boards to hand out the First Gift of Christmas.

If this evening is the center of your Christmas trip, VacationStar rents cabins, condos, lodges and townhouses around Branson, so you can plan the rest of the stay around your train date. The train leaves the depot at 206 E Main St in downtown Branson and follows a point-to-point route through the woods and neighborhoods around downtown, with several changes in direction built into the show.

Here is the order of the ride, as Branson Scenic Railway describes it: the Conductor checks golden tickets, chefs serve hot chocolate and a treat, the cast reads Chris Van Allsburg's book, Santa boards and gives each guest a silver sleigh bell, and performers lead caroling and holiday activities on the trip back to the station. The ride itself lasts one hour and fifteen minutes, and the railway puts the whole visit, depot time included, at roughly two hours.

How Much Are Polar Express Tickets in Branson for 2026?

Tickets for 2026 run from $39 for a child and $51 for an adult in Deluxe Coach on a Value date, up to $84 for a child and $94 for an adult in the First Class Dome on a Peak date, plus state and local tax.

Child prices apply to ages 2 to 11, and lap infants 23 months and under are $8 no matter the date or class. The railway says Value, Standard and Peak departures differ only in date and time, and every departure runs the same show. It also points budget-minded guests to Value dates early in the season. The season opens November 12, so a Thanksgiving trip can include the ride if you check which departures that week are priced as Value, and our Thanksgiving in Branson 2026 guide covers what else is open that week.

Which Polar Express Seat Class Should You Book?

Deluxe Coach is the best value for most families, since it includes the sleigh bell and a table for $51 per adult on a Value date. Pay more for First Class if you want the collectible ceramic mug, or for a Dome seat if you want the upper level.

Every class gets the same show and the same silver sleigh bell. What changes is the seat and whether a mug comes with it:

Deluxe Coach Class has tables from one to four seats. Where a table only requires two seats to be bought, you share it with other passengers unless you book the whole table.

First Class is table seating in the lower-level premium cars and adds a collectible ceramic mug. Seats are sold in pairs.

Coach Class Dome is coach seating on the upper level of a dome car, sold in pairs, with no mug. It costs the same as First Class, so the choice between them is the upper level versus a table and a mug.

First Class Dome is upper-level table seating with the mug, and it is the most expensive class on every date.

The railway also lists a plain Coach Class, with seats sold in odd numbers, but its 2026 price grid does not show a Coach Class fare, so check the seating chart when you book. All seats are assigned, and you pick them yourself at checkout, much like booking a flight.

What Should You Know Before Your Polar Express Ride?

Arrive about 40 minutes before your showtime, because the boarding platform closes 10 minutes after showtime and the railway does not let anyone board after that, even if the rest of your party is already on the train.

Parking: the railway's own lot sits across the street from the depot, next to the Starbucks at 201 E Main St. Space is limited and tickets are checked at the entrance. Paid overflow parking is on Sycamore Street across from the Branson Convention Center and in the Branson Landing public parking garage on Branson Landing Boulevard. You can also drop passengers at the depot.

What to wear: families are encouraged to wear warm pajamas like the passengers in the book, but you board and leave from an unheated platform, so bring winter coats too. Our white Christmas in Branson guide has more on packing for a cold December stay.

On board: restrooms are limited, and staff may walk you to the nearest one in another car. There are no wheelchair-accessible restrooms on the train, though there are on the event grounds, and doorways fit wheelchairs up to 24 inches wide. The event is alcohol-free, and only trained service animals are allowed. A gift shop at the depot sells Polar Express keepsakes.

Weather: trains run in snow. If the railway cancels or postpones for weather, or because major roads nearby are closed, it offers full refunds.

Is the Polar Express in Branson Worth the Money?

It is worth it if your children know the story and are young enough for child fares, since a family of four pays $180 to $356 before tax depending on date and class, and the same show runs at every price.

For two adults and two children ages 2 to 11, before tax, the totals work out to $180 in Deluxe Coach on a Value date, $260 in Deluxe Coach on a Peak date, and $356 in the First Class Dome on a Peak date. Since the railway says every departure runs the same show, the cheapest way to get the full experience is a Value date in Deluxe Coach.

Read the cancellation rules before you pay. You can cancel up to 60 days before departure for a refund minus $14 per adult ticket and $7 per child ticket. Inside 60 days the booking becomes non-refundable, with no exceptions for illness, weather or road closures, though you can move to another date in the same season for $6 per ticket. Changes and cancellations go through the railway by phone, not online.

The railway says tickets are expected to sell out quickly and recommends booking as soon as you know your date. Book the train first, then the rental around it. To match a rental to your train date, call VacationStar at (877) 495-4991.

Where Should You Stay for a Polar Express Trip to Branson?

Stay in a vacation rental with a full kitchen, so you can feed the kids around your train time and get them into pajamas before you drive to the depot.

Showtimes vary by departure, so a kitchen lets you eat early or late depending on the train you book. For a couple with one or two kids, our Branson condos offer fully equipped kitchens, Wi-Fi and washer and dryer. Booking direct with VacationStar also gets you discounted show and attraction tickets for the rest of the trip.
